Comprehensive Health Services to Provide Onsite Health Units and Emergency Medical Services at New York Racing Association's Belmont Stakes

ELMONT, N.Y. – June 1, 2005 – Comprehensive Health Services (CHS), an occupational health and wellness services company, will be providing trackside emergency medical care and onsite health units for racing fans, Belmont employees and jockeys at this year’s Belmont Stakes, June 11.

As a part of safeguarding attendees’ health – from potential barn accidents to an unseated jockey or a medically distressed fan – CHS will have:

  • Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and registered nurses stationed at three stationary first-aid stations;
  • An onsite supervising physician;
  • Additional EMTs stationed throughout the crowd, which in 2004 reached over 120,000 race patrons
  • CHS EMTs will be on the track in an ambulance right behind the horses to provide immediate medical care in the event a jockey is unseated or injured;
  • Ambulances will be onsite to handle transports to area hospitals if necessary;
  • CHS staff will also facilitate health care needs for VIPs to ensure that they can attend the race without concern.

Year-round, CHS manages the Belmont Back Stretch clinic, which provides medical care for the staff who make Belmont run before, during and after the races, many of whom are multi-national workers from the U.S. and other nations. CHS also handles onsite medical care at New York Racing Association racetracks at Saratoga and Aqueduct.
