CHS Announces International Expansion
Launches Mobile Medical Support Units in Middle East
RESTON, VA – May 20, 2008 — Comprehensive Health Services, Inc. (CHS), a leading national workforce health management company, today announced a major global expansion with the launch of its new subsidiary, Comprehensive Health Services International, Inc. As its first contract, CHS International will provide medical support to approximately 9,000 interpreters and subcontractors working with United States government affiliates in the Middle East.
With its initial focus on medical support initiatives in U.S. military theaters in Iraq and Afghanistan, CHS International is strategically positioned for rapid expansion in the global marketplace.
“CHS is proud to be expanding at this time into such a high-growth international market,” said Gary G. Palmer, CHS Executive Vice President for the Government Sector, who has been named president of CHS International. “Our mobile, global medical support teams will become a vital resource to U.S. Department of Defense and Department of State initiatives worldwide.”
CHS International’s first major Middle East contract calls for medical support to Global Linguist Solutions LLC, and the thousands of translators and military subcontractors working in Iraq. A total of 35 CHS employees, including registered nurses, physicians’ assistants and emergency medical technicians, will become embedded with troops and commanders in ten locations.
“The primary focus of our expert medical personnel will be preventive medical monitoring and ongoing wellness programming to keep people as healthy as possible so they can perform their duties,” said Palmer. “Treating and stabilizing injuries is of course a key function of our medical aid stations.”
CHS International will establish five regional medical aid/examination stations in Iraq, providing fixed locations in the central, north, south, east and western regions to support medical screenings, stabilize injured translators and provide general medical care. The company will also provide pre-placement screenings, immunizations and medical, dental and psychological examinations for interpreters, both U.S. citizens and local hires in the field, to ensure they meet required standards.
Palmer oversees all business performance for federal and Department of Defense customers. Prior to joining CHS in 1997, he handled international business development in Australia and Saudi Arabia for Lockheed Martin and Martin Marietta International.
